Claude Code pricing: what each plan costs

Claude Code comes with Anthropic's paid plans. You do not pay for it separately. This page lists what each plan costs, taken from Anthropic's pricing page on the date above.
Harrowtech.ai is independent and not part of Anthropic. Prices change, so confirm on claude.com/pricing before you buy. When we checked, Anthropic's page showed prices in dollars (Enterprise marked US$), no pound prices, and the line "Prices shown don't include applicable tax."
Which plans include Claude Code

Paying by the amount you use (the API)
You can also use Claude Code through a Console account, which bills by usage instead of a monthly plan. Anthropic's pricing page lists example rates per million tokens (input / output): Fable 5.1 at $10 / $50, Opus 5.5 at $4 / $20, Sonnet 5.5 at $2 / $10 and Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 / $0.50 (for prompts up to 100,000 tokens). Anthropic's pricing page also says heavy coders can switch to pay-as-you-go API credits through a Console account.
The same API section says "Save 50% with batch processing". That links to Anthropic's Message Batches API, which processes large volumes of requests asynchronously for tasks that do not need an immediate answer. It is an API pricing option, not a discount on the monthly plans above.
Which one to pick
- Trying it out: Pro is the cheapest paid plan that includes Claude Code.
- Using it every day: if you keep running into the Pro limits, Max gives 5x or 20x the usage.
- A team: the Team plan has standard and premium seats for a group.
- Unpredictable or very heavy use: the API charges for exactly what you use, which can cost more or less than a plan depending on how much you run it.
Questions
Is there a free version?
No. The free Claude plan does not include Claude Code. Anthropic's setup page says Claude Code requires a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account, or a third-party provider such as Amazon Bedrock.
Do the prices include VAT?
No. Anthropic's pricing page says "Prices shown don't include applicable tax", and it gives no UK VAT figure or pound prices. Anthropic's help centre says "Your billing address determines how taxes are calculated on your Claude purchases." When you sign up for Pro or Max, an optional Tax or VAT ID field appears if your address is eligible for tax purposes, and you can add or change the ID later in Settings > Billing. Changes apply to future billing cycles only, not to invoices already issued. If you buy an individual plan as a business, the same article says to tick "Use a different name on invoices" in Settings > Billing and put your company name in the "Bill to" field.
